{"id":497,"date":"2014-01-29T14:00:28","date_gmt":"2014-01-29T14:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/?p=497"},"modified":"2014-01-21T14:08:28","modified_gmt":"2014-01-21T14:08:28","slug":"restoration-project-taking-pictures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/restoration-project-taking-pictures.html","title":{"rendered":"New Years Restoration Project Step 2 &#8211; Documenting and Taking Pictures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our ongoing series on starting a New Years Restoration project, we are going to cover first steps to getting started.\u00a0 In the last entry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/new-years-corvette-restoration-project.html\">we discussed the search for a Corvette<\/a>.\u00a0 Places to look, and the idea that you wanted to look for a car to restore that plays to your strengths.\u00a0\u00a0 So, for now, we\u2019re assuming you have completed your search, you found and purchased a Corvette that needs some level of care to come all the way back to fully restored and you\u2019re ready to get going.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-498 aligncenter\" alt=\"Corvette restoration before picture\" src=\"https:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/before-picture.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/before-picture.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.volvette.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/before-picture-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this entry, we\u2019re going to look at first steps to getting your restoration project underway.\u00a0\u00a0 So, you\u2019ve got the Corvette in your garage and you\u2019re ready to jump\u2026HOLD IT!\u00a0\u00a0 First things first, get an HD digital camera, higher quality the better and take pictures.\u00a0 Lots of pictures.\u00a0 You can use any good 6-8 megapixel camera with HD quality, most phones these days have this type of camera at a minimum now.\u00a0 The point of these pictures is not just the \u201cbefore\u201d type of pictures, although you\u2019ll want those as well.\u00a0 No, we\u2019re talking about restoration pictures.\u00a0 The difference between a regular before shot and a restoration shot is what you are trying to accomplish.<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of reasons for this.\u00a0\u00a0 First, you want to catalog the state of the vehicle as you begin.\u00a0 Keeping an accurate catalog pictures, in a photo album, or online with your computer by section is advisable.\u00a0 Engine compartment, Under Carriage, Front end, Hood, Left-rear Quarter panel, and so on.\u00a0 We\u2019re talking thorough here.\u00a0 The best reason for this is when dealing with companies like Volvette, you can send copies of the images to show us the exact part(s) you are looking at replacing, or show the state of the existing part so we can help assess what your best, next steps in restoration might be.<\/p>\n<p>To\u00a0 be sure, restoration projects can take years to complete, that being the case, you are never going to remember the state of your vehicle as well as you will during this initial photo session.\u00a0 And it will be necessary, believe us, to catalog and document where you start from.\u00a0 If you are tearing components down, document and take pictures.\u00a0 As you disassemble the engine, take the parts off, lay them out and take pictures as well.\u00a0 As much as possible, we can assist with reviewing this images and determining whether we think you need to replace pieces and parts or a whole system.\u00a0 These pictures are worth much more than 1000 words.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, your DURING pictures \u2013 many times, we see BEFORE \u2013 AFTER pictures, and it\u2019s amazing to see where a restoration project starts and ends, but to tell the story adequately, you need to take your DURING the process pictures.\u00a0 Take pictures along the way, documenting your progress.\u00a0 It will help you motivate yourself to finish as well.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In our ongoing series on starting a New Years Restoration project, we are going to cover first steps to getting started.\u00a0 In the last entry, we discussed the search for a Corvette.\u00a0 Places to look, and the idea that you wanted to look for a car to restore that plays to your strengths.\u00a0\u00a0 So, for [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":498,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-497","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-corvette-information","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 -
