Corvettes are among the most iconic cars on the road today. They have been used in movies, parades, as gifts to astronauts and more, making them idealized and idolized across the globe. It helps that Corvettes are pretty powerful cars in their own right – more than just expensive eye-candy.

As recognizable as the cars might be, so too are many of their owners. Jay Leno, for example, is just one of many automobile enthusiasts who keeps a private collection of cars. Unlike most automobile enthusiasts, however, he is wealthy enough to own a huge range of cars from jet powered motorbikes to classic Corvettes.

John Wayne
If charisma and charm really are prerequisites to Corvette ownership than it’s no surprise that John Wayne, world famous American actor, also happened to own a snazzy Corvette. In fact, his car was so iconic that it now sits in a museum along with his likeness.
John Wayne is an American icon so it’s only fitting that the vehicle he loved to drive became an icon in and of itself.
Ironically, John was unable to drive the Corvette for very long because climbing into and out of the chassis became difficult for him. Acting and the physical toll that goes with it can take a lot out of a man. A car as compact as the C1 Corvette wasn’t flexible enough to accommodate someone who had been performing his own stunts for decades.
Matthew McConaughey
John Wayne isn’t the only famous American actor to find himself inside a famous American car. Matthew McConaughey is another action movie star with a love for luxurious, powerful cars.
Besides a keen taste in hardware, he has a good sense of style, as evidenced by the lustrous look of his Corvette Stingray. With a custom paint job, careful attention to detail, and regular maintenance to keep it looking slick and brand new, McConaughey’s car is a rarity and a true beauty.
With a car as iconic and immediately recognizable as the Corvette, it’s no wonder actors, TV stars and other famous Americans gravitate towards it. Whether it’s the classic first generation Corvette John Wayne was so fond of or the Stingray driven by Matthew McConaughey, these are some truly fine cars.
